On Thursday September 26th, AC's first speakeasy The AC Bottle Company recognized Voice Of Atlantic City Founder Raymond Tyler as one of AC's Icons.

A brief list of Tyler's accomplishments include being a contributing writer to The Source Magazine and Philadelphia Weekly, being the first Black Columnist at AC Weekly and producing several radio shows for WOND, WLFR, and WTTH the Touch.

Since Raymond Tyler is not a drinker, he decided to let Voice Of AC contributor Donald Corporal do the tasting and the picking

Editorial: When Celebrity Access GOES WRONG.

Since the inception of the internet, American culture is becoming a worldwide culture. Now that anyone, anywhere can peer into the lives of the rich and famous it does 3 things: 1. exposes how messed up the lives of these "chosen" few are and how money and fame doesn't protect you from bad choices and its ramifications, 2. Overly exposes our youth to the lives and practices had by the celebrities they want to emulate, hence giving them a blueprint of how to look and act as if they were in that population. 3. Now this exposure also eliminates the desires for old school protocols to achieve that which they covet..who needs school when I can buy what I see?, why go to school when drugs can get me the money quicker than going to school? If everybody who I look up to didn't go to school and they made it, why should I?
Real talk...when Jay-Z, Baby, French Montana, and Rick Ross are your child's role models...College, Trade School, or Struggling wont be in the ready list of things to accomplish. While their children see Lawyers in their families and in their community circles as parents and neighbors or friends, ours depend on youtube, and Worldstar..WAKE UP!

Editorial: Are We Ready To Speak Honestly About Inter-Racial Dating

 

Let me start by saying that if I speak honestly?

I am a child of the mid 20th century and the early 21st.
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN HERE?

It means I still hear my momma telling me "If you get caught with a white girl she's gonna holler rape."

It means the images of black women being brutalized in films like roots will most likely be with me till I die.

It also means that I learned to live and let live.

It means three of my dearest friends that have never ever hesitated to help me and the products of inter racial relationships.

It means that the most fun I have had at a club in recent time was with a white women because I did not have to wade through the cultural quagmire that many Black women insist on dragging with them EVERY where they go (such as putting on a show for their girl friends.)

It means I understand that if you find some one that is BLUE with yellow polka dots and they love you for you?

Love them back and be happy.....it's rare and you are very lucky.

It means that I understand WHY people choose to date outside of their race because BLACK PEOPLE HAVE TOO MANY CULTURAL HANG UPS...SOME OF WHICH ARE KILLING US SPIRITUALLY AND PHYSICALLY.

Being a child of two very different centuries means this...I LOVE BLACK WOMEN...and I AM STILL HOPEFUL THAT I CAN FIND ONE THAT IS WHOLE ENOUGH TO LOVE ME....

The Voice Of Atlantic City Remembers Former Heavy Weight Champ Ken Norton

Former heavyweight boxing champion Ken Norton Sr. has died at 70, according to his son.
Norton, who had battled various ailments for the past several years, died on Wednesday night in a hospital in Arizona where he had been rehabbing since undergoing a stroke last year.
A previously unheralded Norton famously beat Muhammad Ali in 1973 in San Diego, breaking his jaw in the process. It was just the second defeat of Ali's career.
"Ali thought it would be an easy fight," Gene Kilroy, Ali's former business manager said. "But Norton was unorthodox. Instead of jabbing from above like most fighters he would put his hands down and jab up at Ali."
According to Kilroy, Norton visited Ali in the hospital following the first of what would eventually be three fights. Ali said he never wanted to fight him again, but didn't hold on that promise.
Norton narrowly lost to Ali later that year at the Inglewood Forum in California in the re-match, and then Ali won again in another controversial decision in 1976 at Yankee Stadium to keep his heavyweight title.
Norton, the 1978 WBC champion, lost in his first title defense after an epic, 15-round bout vs. Larry Holmes in June of 1978. It's considered one of the greatest fights of all-time.
Norton finished his career 42-7-1, including 33 knockouts. He retired in 1981 following a first-round loss to Gerry Cooney at Madison Square Garden and then went on to appear in several movies.
One of his sons, Ken Norton Jr., was a star linebacker in the NFL and is now a coach for the Seattle Seahawks.(As Reported from CBS Sports)

Weekend South Jersey Interview with Ava Holly Lewis

Through the hard work of people like Ava Holly Lewis, Kelly LaVigna and Mari Dattollo, The Jersey Shore Children's Museum will have a temporary location inside The Hamilton Mall.
